  1. Your internal links should have the following characteristics in order to be classified as important by Google: placement in the main area of a page (not in the footer or sidebar) placement at the beginning of a text visual highlighting (by using colors, underlinings etc.) relevance of the link.
  2. Select the text or item you want to link to. On the Insert tab, in the Links group, click Bookmark and type a name for your bookmark. Select the text or object that you want to display as the hyperlink. Right-click and select Hyperlink on the shortcut. Under Link to, click Place in.

We’ve recently presented 4 ways to hyperlink a PDF and now it’s time to talk about internal links in PDFs. Internal links are references to other sections of the same document. For example, you can have a page of contents in your PDF, where you link each chapter title to the page where it begins.

Internal links are the links you create to other pages on your website. For example, you may have a blog post about healthy brands of dog food. And you might have a blog post about recipes to make your own dog food at home. Internal links are to backlinks what Robin is to Batman. They’re crucial to SEO success, yet receive little to none of the credit. What are internal links, I hear you ask? They’re links from one page on the same domain to another. An internal link is any link from one page on your website to another page on your website. Both your users and search engines use links to find content on your website. Your users use links to navigate through your site and to find the content they want to find.

This is something that you can do in many programs, but today I’ll only show you how to do it with InDesign and Word.

InDesign

InDesign is probably the most used tool, for creating publications such as magazines, catalogs, books and even photo albums.

  1. From the View menu, select Extras and click Show Hyperlinks to open the hyperlink panel.
  2. Select the object or text you want to use as the anchor for the hyperlink
  3. Click New Hyperlink from the hyperlinks panel and select Page from the Link To menu. Type the page you want to link to in the Page section, then select Fixed for the Zoom Setting.
  4. Click OK to finish.

Word

  1. Select the text or item you want to link to.
  2. On the Insert tab, in the Links group, click Bookmark and type a name for your bookmark. Click Add.
  3. Select the text or object that you want to display as the hyperlink. Right-click and select Hyperlink on the shortcut menu.
  4. Under Link to, click Place in This Document and in the list, select the bookmark that you want to link to.
    Export your document as PDF. Go to File – Save as – Adobe PDF

An internal link is a type of hyperlink on a web page to another page or resource, such as an image or document, on the same website or domain.

Hyperlinks are considered either 'external' or 'internal' depending on their target or destination. Generally, a link to a page outside the same domain or website is considered external, whereas one that points at another section of the same web page or to another page of the same website or domain is considered internal.[1] These definitions become clouded, however, when the same organization operates multiple domains functioning as a single web experience, e.g. when a secure commerce website is used for purchasing things displayed on a non-secure website. In these cases, links that are 'external' by the above definition can conceivably be classified as 'internal' for some purposes. Ultimately, an internal link points to a web page or resource in the same root directory. Simple design update doubles sales: the bikeseat.com story.

Similarly, seemingly 'internal' links are in fact 'external' for many purposes, for example in the case of linking among subdomains of a main domain, which are not operated by the same person(s). For example, a blogging platform, such as WordPress, Blogger or Tumblr host thousands of different blogs on subdomains, which are entirely unrelated and the authors of which are generally unknown to each other. Internal

Both internal and external links allow users of the website to navigate to another web page or resource. This is the basis or founding idea or principal behind the internet. That users can navigate from one resource to another by clicking on hyperlinks. Internal links help users navigate the same website, whereas external links take users to a different website.

Both internal and external links help users surf the internet as well as having search engine optimization value. Internal linking allows for good website navigation and structure and allows search engines to crawl or spider websites.[2] Some websites content management systems are better than others for optimizing internal links. For example, website builder Wix has some notable limitations in comparison to WordPress.[3]
